Update July 14th: I love living in a home. They have 2 nice doggies that my mom,
Sandy, and I love to play with.
And boy do we play and run. I'm still undergoing treatment for my demodex and my skin is finally looking better.
I was found in a junk yard eating donuts.
Now thanks to AARF , I am becoming a new dog.

Hi, we are Millie and Margaret and we love each other. We are extremely LOVING and easy to please girls. We weigh about 85 pounds each.
We both have arthritis and get glucosamine and fish oil and aspirin daily.
Our current foster mom is in love with us both but she already has 12 dogs and we have to stay outside!!!
We are affectionately called M and M and are wonderful companions.
We follow our foster mom around, come when we are called, and love to get hugs and give kisses.
Our foster mom can't say enough good things about us.
We just thank AARF for saving us after we were dumped out of a truck off Jeff Davis.
Our foster mom feels lucky to help us. We are now looking for a retirement home where we can spend time indoors during the
cold and wet winters. Please e-mail or call and find out about our senior dog program.

Hi, I'm Martini (female). I was originally adopted out from Aarf as a tiny puppy.
I'm now fully grown and not fitting in with all the major changes in my family.
I really love them and they love me. But I'm looking for a new home now. I'm very nice once I get to know you.
I'm a little guarded at first (its in my shepherd nature), but I warm up to you real fast.
I love to go on long walks. I would also love to have a fenced yard to play in.

Hi, my name is Mystic and I am a very sweet momma who gave everything I had to making my
pups as healthy as they could be out in the wild. Because of this,
I am very skinny and need to have many hearty meals to get some weight on me.
But being so hungry, I have no food aggression.
I am very shy but I warm up to you very quickly, especially if you have food.

Hi my name is Bruce and I'm one year old!
I was rescued from a rural pound on my last day.
I’m so glad AARF came for me! I was so scared there! I am settling in nicely in my foster home.
I am the perfect gentleman- I get along GREAT with cats and other dogs.
I'm working really hard on learning housetraining, and my foster mom says I'm doing awesome with it.
I've also learned Sit! Foster mom says we are going to start working on tricks like Shake and Down next.
I'm learning how to walk on a leash using a gentle leader. I don't pull on a leash rather
I lag behind or sit down- but I'm building up my confidence! I even walked all the way to Cary town with
my foster mom and met all sorts of new people and I did wonderful!
I do sometimes get car sick- I hate that. I'm not a big fan of riding in the car (you wouldn't
be either if you got motion sick). I'm a very gentle boy, very calm and mellow.
I hardly ever bark (thats what's so great about akita mixes). Yet I still like to play!
My foster dog sisters are really great playmates. I like to play tug of war- see the video of me and my
foster sister playing! I'm the super quiet one and she's the noisey one in the video. I looove milkbones.
I always take treats gently from people. I'm a medium energy level pup, so I'm NOT crazy hyper. I'm easy to train.
I wag my tail super fast whenever I meet someone new at the dog adoption stand. I really hope to meet YOU next,
so maybe we can become best friends and I can have a forever home! For more information, contact Ashley at
ashley_nollen@yahoo.com Subject: Bruce.

Hi! I'm Spud. I'm one of those dogs that have been living in a rabbit hutch
for the last year. Some nice people are teaching me how to walk on a leash.
I've never done that before. But oh gosh, it is so nice to be in the big backyard without chains, without cages.
I like to smell every little corner of the yard. Wow! And then they let me meet new dogs. I like all of them.
I'm still real scared of new situations so I need a foster home where I can practice stuff like leash walking so
I can get ready to be adopted. For more information, contact AARF at
aarfva@hotmail.com

Hi, I am Apache, and I am a four year old Staffordshire terrier mix.
I weigh about 55 lbs and I am a sweetheart.
I am a very low maintenance dog who just appreciates the occasional walk with my owner.
I am very cuddly and love to sit at your feet and watch tv.
But I really need to be in a home where I am the only dog.
I have never been around children before, so it is also best if I am not in a home with children.
I am a very healthy dog who is up to date with my shots. I do not require a lot, just a loving home!
For more information, contact

Hi! I'm Hokie and I'm a male Bernese Mountain Dog, Saint Bernard St Mix and a very "special" boy.
I would prefer to be the only dog in the house, because I demand your undivided attention.
I am well behaved during the day when you are at work; however, once my fosters are home, I follow them from room to room.
I do get along great with other dogs, but I prefer to be the one to get all the attention.
I am a very protective dog and with that comes a great responsibility.
I do not take kindly to strangers (in particular children and men).
I walk well on a leash, as long as strangers do not get too close or squirrels or cats cross my way.
I love to chase squirrels and cats and would not do well in house with cats.
I love toys ... unfortunately, my jaws are so powerful that I chew through most of them in a matter of a couple of hours.
I enjoy chasing balls or just about anything you want to throw for me to catch. My
foster home think I am a great dog. I love to be brushed and love to snuggle.
After a long walk through the park, I love to settle in for "movie night" by nestling into the corner of
the couch right next to my people. I am a fantastic dog for the right owner.
My foster home absolutely love me and if they did not already have 2 big dogs (one of them is my brother), there is no doubt that they would keep me.
My foster home is a very responsible place for me and this is what they want you to know:
Anyone interested in adopting Hokie should think carefully about the responsibility in taking him into their home.
As his owner, you will have to commit to always keep him safe,
which in Hokie's case means that you will have to take extra precautions to keep him out of range of strangers.
He will bite strangers that get too close and will attack anyone that invades his space (his home).
For more information, contact AARF at
aarfva@hotmail.com Subject: Hokie.

Lilac
- Hi , my name is Lilac (aka Jodi). I am a sweet young lady (3-4 years), with
a very pretty face. Sometimes I will smile at you and sometimes I will talk to
you. But generally I am a calm, quiet little girl.
I was lost, pregnant, hungry and very skinny when AARF rescued me. Since
then I had my puppies and they have all found their forever homes. As you
can see from my pictures, I have gotten my figure back! (a nice 35 lbs) Now
it is time for me to find my forever home. I am hoping for a nice family
with a nice fenced yard to call my own. I love everyone, but I do not get
along with other dogs, so I will need to be your only pet.
Right now I live with my foster mom and follow her everywhere. I am crate
trained and house trained. I am also very smart! I have learned how to sit,
stand up for treats, speak, and sit by the door while I get my leash on to
go for a car ride. I love car rides!
I will nuzzle my nose up under your arm so you will pet me, and cuddle when
you let me. I am looking for that special home with a whole lot of love to
give because I have a whole bunch of love to give back. I will make someone
the best companion ever!
Please call my foster mom, Brandy at 804-746-7335. to come by to meet me. You will not
be sorry.

Hi, my name is Jinx and I am a loveable guy, who is good with people and dog friendly.

Hi everyone. I'm Dylan . I had a home for years and years but my owner got sick and could no longer take care of me. It made me sad and a little scared of everything. I'm doing better know. I'm meeting more and more people and I'm coming out of my shell. And I simply love giving affection to my favorite people. I would do well in a home with no dogs or cats, simply because I'm used to being the one and only pet. I had all the attention, all the food, all the toys. I would love to find a home just like my old one, where I can be the only spoiled baby again!
I'm 5 years young (8/2007) and have the energy of a 2 or 3 year old. So, I've got a lot of years ahead of me

Watson
- Hi my name is Watson and I am very sweet boy.
I came from a rural pound and I was so skinny and so shy with people.
AARF thinks that I was never treated very well by people. I had heartworms too.
My foster mom nursed me back to health. Boy do I feel great now! I even gained some weight.
I just love running in the backyard and guess what else I've learned...people are so very nice.
I can still be a bit independent but hey that's the bloodhound in me!
If I get on a scent, I can follow it forever (but I'll come back for a yummy treat!).

I'm a male Rottie/Shepherd Mix who couldn't be cuter.
I'm really a 70 pound puppy who loves to play. I was born on March 1, 2001.
I love doggie toys, playing fetch and being with other dogs. I'm a fun dog, fun to be with and fun loving.
But I also love to sit at your feet and have my head rubbed. I'm good in the house and want to please.
I need someone to help me learn to walk on a leash. Other than that, I know most of what I should know.
Some nice ladies found me and took me in but couldn't keep me because they already had 3 dogs,
plus I could jump over their 4 foot fence (so I need a fence 5 foot or higher).

Hi, my name is Monea and I delivered a litter of puppies on February 7, 2008.
I am a little thing, only weighing around 15 pounds. I had 2 daughters and 2 sons.
But I also opened my heart and milk to a abandoned pup that was pushed away from his mommy.
So, I cared for 5 total pups and did a good job, too. I was rescued before I was put to sleep, very pregnant.
I am now waiting for a special home to call my own. I am very sweet but very scared, too. I
need a quiet home to call my own. I have been spayed and all medical done. I love other dogs!!
And I like to run around and play with them. I just started feeling OK with my foster parents and

Hi! I'm Winnie. I was just rescued out of a nearby pound.
I was part of a cruelty investigation. A bunch of my four legged friends and I had been living in rabbit hutches 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,
for an entire year. Some of my good friends have been affected by the situation.
They do nothing but walk in circles even though they now have a big place to stay in.
I'm one of the lucky ones. I love people. I love dogs. I do have one more big hurdle to climb before I can be free of my past.
I have heartworms. I have to go through treatment where I need to be kept quiet for several weeks.

Hi, I'm Spirit! I am a 7 month old male Border Collie/ Lab (02/17/2008);
I weigh around 20 lbs now, and might get to 40 lbs when I am done growing.
Yep, I'm a three legger. A few month ago, I got into an argument with a car and lost.
There is a long story about that, but I don't think about it myself.
I am a dog, and we dogs live for TODAY, not in the past!
After less that a week in my foster home, I have learned "Sit".
I am learning other stuff too that will help me become a great house dog.
I am reliably crate trained and I am working on my house training.
(I think I've got it, but Dad doesn't trust me yet.)
While I am polite indoors, don't think of me as a couch potato.
I love to romp with my foster siblings! I love toys and I can retrieve balls too.
I'll need a fenced in yard so I can stay in shape.
Things like slick floor surfaces can give me trouble.
I can handle some types, but please keep that in mind before we fall in love.
I might need a carpet runner to walk on. I can do stairs on my own, but that third floor walk-up condo is NOT my cup of tea!

I'm Polly. I'm back home. I have a warm bed, people who care for me. and I'm not so cold all the time anymore.
I don't know what went wrong.
At first everything was fun in my new home. I got lots of attention and they played with me.
But a man came and he was mean to the kids. Some people came and took away the kids that I play with. They said it was unsafe for kids to be there. Soon after, I was kicked out too. But I had a heavy chain and a small dog house. Suddenly everything has gone all wrong.
Was I bad? Did I do something wrong? I'm a good dog. I know I am. I used to sleep in their beds at night.
Its so cold outside. I'm lonely. My ear hurts. But tonite is different. Tonite my neighbor took me away. She let me sleep on the couch. Oh, I liked that. And before I knew it my aarf people were there! I was so happy to see them! They told me I was never going to be cold and scared again. I gave them lots of kisses of thanks. They made sure that I was well fed and all warm and cozy tonite. They also said my ear looks like a touch of frostbite got it. But I feel good! I'm happy.
I guess I'm looking for a new home again.
I'm a little nervous. I don't want to live like that anymore. If you have a tall fenced yard, then I would feel better because you wouldn't
have any reason to chain me up. I can be a little selective with my four legged friends.
I like the male ones - female ones not so much. And those small four leggers (the ones that bark and the ones that meow), I'm not so good with.
But I'm real good with people, kids too. I also know my commands. See I'm very smart.
I just want to go to a home where the people are nice to me. For more information, contact

and happy in my foster home, but I'm still uncomfortable in public (I'm working on that).
I am very sweet and I'm already housebroken.
I'm ready for someone special to give me the chance to blossom into a wonderful family member.
Please email wkdwitch@msn.com Subject:Tiki for more information.

Hi, my name is Washington and I am alive and safe. Boy was that close!!
I was getting ready to lose my life and the real nice ladies couldn't bare to see me but to sleep, so they pulled me,
and started to call rescue groups to see if they could take me!! My foster mom has such a big heart and
someone said she is a sucker!! B
I can run and play with my new foster family, I love playing king of the hill and chase and tug of war!!
I wrestle and jump and enjoy being alive, I promise I will be a real Sweet boy to any lucky family.
I will always be thankful for all the rescue people that saved my life and I am going to make a very good family member.
They think I am around 3 to 4 months old (June, 2008).

Hi, we are beagle mix puppies that were born in January,
We were taken out of the Cumberland County Shelter, when all the noise was being made about some kind
of rabbit hutch dogs.
We were watching very quietly from our little bed we shared,
when all the excitement was happening at the shelter.
Then our foster mom took one look at our sweet faces and we knew we had hooked her
with the look we learned from our real mom, you know the look,,,put on your sad little
faces when anyone comes in. Well it worked and we are having a ball at our new foster home.
Mom says we are beagle hound mixes and that we give sweet kisses to everyone,
even the mean cat that bites us when we give her kisses.

Hi, we are the cutest puppies that love people and kids. We are probably mainly boxer and shephard mixes. One of
our brothers,Pikachu, is having a rough time growing. The rest of us are rapidly growing. Pikacuhu has
been to the vet twice and they're stumped! He had a very bad worm infestation (gross, right!) and
they took all his body's resources and he is severely anemic(low on blood). He might need several more vet visits,
iron injections, and even surgery to become a normal puppy!
AARF constantly needs donations to pay for vet bills for dogs and puppies just like Pikachu.
Please consider donating!!! Every penny counts!!! For more information, contact AARF at
aarfva@hotmail.com

Chance was unfortunately dumped in a kennel.
He is too wonderful to live out his life there. He can be a bit shy at first.
He loves to play catch. He loves female dogs. He would do best in a home with older kids.
