Paws in the Park (PIP): 5/5/12 Sponsors/Vendors Needed

Hi! Ray Ray here! I am named after the amazing Ray Charles, I too am blind. People tell me I'm quite handsome, and apparently I'm a Dalmatian/Lab mix, and probably a little of this and a sprinkle of that, a potpourri of cuteness and love! . I weigh around 65 pounds and am approximately 5 years old.

I was found in Amherst, Va tethered to a chain and bleeding. I had 2 large masses that had to be removed from my body, everyone was holding their breath but it turns out it was not cancer!. PHEW! I still have my stitches but am healing quickly. Looks like I am healthy as a horse! But boy oh boy mostly I am I happy to have a roof over my head, and a loving foster mom who takes care of me.

Sometimes my foster brother bothers me because he's still a puppy and has more energy than I do, but we still get along, heck I have decided that I enjoy playing with him recently. The house I live in has cats, but they keep their distance from me, so I'm not sure how I feel about them.

I have only been in my new home for a few days, so as I get more comfortable with my surroundings my foster mom with tell you more about me. I am blind after all and it is kinda scary at first not being able to see where I am and where the furniture and the stairs are, I bump my head here and there but i am quickly learning where everything is and becoming so much more relaxed. I am friendly with everyone I meet; people and canines alike.

I will do well with or without a doggie buddy but if I do end up with a brother or sister, I would do best with a calmer dog, someone too hyper may overwhelm me too easily. Since I'm a little older I'm pretty easygoing. Because I wasn't really taken care of before I came to my foster mom, I don't really have any training, but she's working with me. I do however seem to be housebroken and crate trained, or catching on very very quickly.

I like to go for walks and then curl up on the couch and snuggle when I get home. I've been told I snore, but that it's endearing. I had a rough first few years and would really love to have a stable home to live out the rest of my life in. My foster mom says I'm very special, and deserve someone special to shower me with affection. Could that person be you?

Hi, my name is Miracle. It is a Miracle that I was saved from a local shelter! I had my puppies and got very sick the day after having them! AARF heard about me and stepped in and took me and my newborn babies to the emergency vet!! I had mastitis and the babies were dehydrated!! We were given fluids and antibiotics and placed in a warm and loving foster home!! All seven of my children survived with the help of an AARF volunteer!

We were blessed with good food, a loving foster home, and lots of love! AARF paid out over $500.00 to save me and my children. If you would like to make a donation to help pay for our medical and food expenses, that would be great! It takes donations of money for AARF to rescue and save more lives!! Hi, I am Autumn . I am a 2 to 3 year old female pitbull mix. I weigh about 40 pounds. I am housebroken and crate trained. I need a little help learning to walk on a leash like a nice polite lady, but we are getting there! I know how to sit and will shake your hand. I live with a male and a female dog right now and we all get along great! I seem a little too interested in the cat that lives here so I am probably not the best match for a kitty friend. I run and play outside with my foster siblings but am very mellow inside the house; I mostly like to curl up quietly on your lap or in my dog bed and nap.

When AARF rescued me I had a terrible skin condition and almost no hair. It is extremely curable (look at my golden locks now!) but it takes a month or more to go away completely. I am getting baths and medicine now, but am not quite ready for my new home yet. I will be ready to go around Thanksgiving. I am not contagious at all so I am ready to meet you now!

There is a lot to be said for Ogre who was rescued from an animal hoarder. Ogre is about 9 years old so there are many things we don’t know about him. What we do know: Ogre does not like other animals. Ogre doesn’t know how to fetch a ball. Ogre does not like baths. Ogre doesn’t like going into his kennel at the end of the day (he wants to sleep with you) and he does not like basements.

We also know Ogre wants nothing more than to sit on you if you sit on the floor, lean on you when you are near or to have his big head rubbed when he plops it on to your lap. Ogre loves to sit in front of the storm door and watch the squirrels and birds. Ogre loves his blankets. Ogre loves people of all ages; he is patient and kind. Ogre does not snap, nip or bite. He walks on a leash, but he pulls a bit. Ogre is pretty well potty trained and getting good at "sit".

The heart of Ogre beats to please and to be loved. Of all the dogs my family has fostered, our “O” is the best example of overcoming hardship and understanding the power of love.

Hi, I am Savannah and I am a year and half old black lab/boxer mix. I am very playful and loving and have a lot of energy. I love to play and just LOVE attention!!! I am also a bit of a snuggle bunny and if I get the chance, I will crawl up in the bed with you.

I do need a lot of attention and play time, so a family would probably be best for me. I would love to have a kid or two to roll around and play with. I also would do better with a fenced in back yard too and preferably a 6 foot fence because you wouldn’t believe how high I can jump!

I also do really well with other dogs and I have always done well with cats too! I am house trained, but you will want to crate me when you are gone because I do have a little bit of separation anxiety. Toss a couple of treats in the crate before you leave and I will go right in without a problem.

I have had a wonderful Daddy for the past year and half and he has given me and my sister, an AARF forever foster, but Daddy is going to have to move from his house soon into an apartment and he is worried that not having a yard to play in and the fact that I bark when he leaves wouldn’t work well. He has given me lots of love for the past year and half and wants to make sure that I get lots more love and lots of play time for the rest of my life.

Hi, I am Aiden, an 8 month old Whippet mix. I was adopted several months ago, but it didn't work out because my adopter became sick and couldn't take care of me anymore.

I am now in a loving foster home, and coming out of my shell. I am a little shy when you first meet me, but once I get comfortable I love to play, and to snuggle. I have not had any accidents in the house (except once when I first go there and I was super scared of all the new places and people). I am also crate trained, I settle down quietly for the night. I'm working on my leash habits (I'm a bit of a weaver, but I don't pull), and some basic training.

I'm a pretty good listener, and just want to please my master. I'm friendly with other dogs, and love to jump around and have fun with them. My old house had cats in it, and so does my new one, but the kitties here keep their distance from me. I would really like to play with them, but they're a little too nervous.

Hi, I'm Tucker and I was found after being hit by a car. I had to have FHO surgery on 9/29/2011 for my leg which cost AARF $1000. My right hind quarter/leg was shaved and I had a 6 inch scar/suture on my hip.

It took a while but I am putting some weight on the leg and playing with my foster buddies, walking around the block and acting very normal now. However, my right thigh is pretty small and I don't always put weight on my right leg. AARF thinks swim therapy would help me recuperate even more. Depending on the cost, I might be able to go.

Regardless, I growl talk at you and really bond quickly. I am very frightened at first with change but quickly bond to new people within 24 hours. I am ready to go to my forever home now.

Okay, well, here is the truth, really what I want is a home I can call my own, someone who will teach me right from wrong, and someone who I know will be there forever and love me through thick and thin, a soulmate who will take me on hikes or runs or any other fun adventures. I need a calm firm leader to tell me what to do. I am so smart and pick up on training quickly, everyone who works with me for even a half an hour is so amazed how quickly I learn stuff. Unfortunately my old foster home could not keep me, I sweeear it was not my fault, they had to move back home and now I am in a kennel.

I looooooove other dogs, I could play forever. I am house broken and know basic commands. AARF is willing to put me through school and pay for it, I just need to be with someone who I can live with so we can practice the stuff we learn together. Please help me, I may be a challenge, it is in my Plott Hound nature, but I will be a huge reward given the chance.

8/19/2011 **Update for Dexter! Dexter went to the specialist and is doing great. He has to remain on Science Diet"RN" food for the rest of his life and have his blood checked every four months to make sure that his blood levels are normal. He is looking for a family to adopt him.

6/26/2011: Poor Dexter - he was just diagnosed with Fanconi syndrome and AARF needs to get him stabilized before he can go back up for adoption.

Like this past Friday, my foster mom was being boring by taking a nap and I wanted to play. So I put the toy in her hand but she moved her hand. So I followed her hand and put the toy there. When she moved again I just put my paw over her hand and held it still and put the toy in it. She nearly fell off the couch laughing!

I sleep through the night, know how to use a doggie door, come when you call me and am full of energy and love. I will truly stay by my person's side. I would follow you to the middle of no where if you went- and I even lay at your feet no matter where you are.
